Feedback Communication over Unknown Channels
Suppose Q is a family of discrete memoryless channels. An unknown member of Q will be available, with perfect, causal output feedback for communication. Is there a coding scheme (possibly with variable transmission time) that can achieve the Burnashev error exponent uniformly over Q ? For two families of channels we show that the answer is yes. Furthermore, for each of these two classes, in add...
متن کاملChannel Coding in Random Access Communication over Compound Channels
Due to the short and bursty incoming messages, channel access activities in a wireless random access system are often fractional. The lack of frequent data support consequently makes it difficult for the receiver to estimate and track the time varying channel states with high precision. This paper investigates random multiple access communication over a compound wireless channel where channel r...
متن کاملDistributed Estimation over Unknown Fading Channels
In this paper, we consider the data detection problem involved in distributed estimation over unknown non-orthogonal fading channel. In general, when studying the distributed estimation problem, the impairments induced by communication channels are restricted to additive noise, quantization or packet loss. In addition, communication protocols are often of TDMA or FDMA type. Herein, by modulatin...
متن کاملDistributed Hypothesis Testing Over Orthogonal Discrete Memoryless Channels
A distributed binary hypothesis testing problem is studied in which multiple helpers transmit their observations to a remote detector over orthogonal discrete memoryless channels. The detector uses the received samples from the helpers along with its own observations to test for the joint distribution of the data. Single-letter inner and outer bounds for the type 2 error exponent (T2EE) is esta...
متن کاملBelief-propagation-based joint channel estimation and decoding for spectrally efficient communication over unknown sparse channels
We consider spectrally-efficient communication over a Rayleigh N-block-fading channel with a K -sparse L-length discrete-time impulse response (for 0 < K < L < N), where neither the transmitter nor the receiver know the channel’s coefficients nor its support. Since the high-SNR ergodic capacity of this channel has been shown to obeyC(SNR) = (1− K/N) log2(SNR) + O(1), any pilot-aided scheme that...
